Whether it was a Brahms string quintet, my own folk music, electronic music, jazz tunes — whatever I was interested in, Hans would be right there with me.

The Blur

Have you ever felt like...

...even though you've done a lot of ear training drills, playing by ear isn't actually any easier?

...when you improvise, you get lost and can't find your way back?

Neither of these means you lack talent. It's the blur — and the blur is a skill problem, not a talent problem.

Clarity

One of your favorite songs from long ago starts going through your head at the end of the work day.  One of the songs you've always wanted to play but only listened to.

You give it a few listens on the way home.

Later, you take a few minutes at your instrument. Your mind reaches back to hear the sound in your memory.

And your hands know where it lives.

Holistic Ear Training

Most ear training happens in isolation — intervals, chords, drills disconnected from any actual song. The patterns never attach to anything, so they don't fire when real music goes by.

This works the other way around. You start with music you already love, and everything you practice stays tethered to it.

Holistic Ear Training in 90 Minutes

You'll walk through a repeatable six-stage cycle — on songs you and the other participants bring in.

Students feel the shift

Hans encourages such a holistic approach — to feel that connection not only in your brain with theory, but in your body too. Sitting by a piano, listening, feeling that change in space when I sing an interval.Normal text.
